Miss Smith 06:11
I see you standing up there your eyes looking down on me You’ve gotten too use to feeling tall ‘cause your family sits in the balcony I see your smug smile it’s crystal clear thrown in my direction You refuse to acknowledge my eyes and turn your stomach in pure objection My father donates every Sunday you so proudly tell Even the Divine is on a budget these days, you’ve got to out finance Hell   Miss Smith can take a piss clean enough to baptize She’ll step on your toes and spit on your back in her mind it’s justified ‘Cause you’ve got sins and she’s got a friend more powerful than you or me And they talk everyday and he likes her ways and he’s promised her eternity   You spend your day yapping, gossiping to no end That’s acceptable no problem for your friend You love to be heard and you’ll make it know who will burn But the Reaper has ears and he’s heard it for years and soon it will be your turn   Miss Smith can take a piss clean enough to baptize She’ll ruin your name, just fun and games, she’ll try to scratch out your eyes ‘Cause she’s got a friend that holds her hand you know the one we can’t see Well they talk everyday and he likes her ways and he’s promised her eternity   You’d call me an animal if you knew what I’d done You’d call me a heathen if you knew my fun You’d call me a sinner if you knew how I played You’d call me the devil if you knew how I laid

Everybody knows not to mess around With a one-horse woman in a one man town Bobby was kid with a messed up mind He shot somebody and he did some time Suzilee was only seventeen but her legs were long and her body lean She had a pistol-packin' poppa in his prime She had a pill-poppin mama But, oh, Suzi was fine These girls don't mean no harm - It's just what they do You'll find yourself torn apart By the time they're through When Suzi's father found out what was going on He said, Oh, that boy ain't gonna make it home Words were said as a crowd gathered around and the men took to fighting as the sun went down Bobby lie there in a pool of blood He said, Oh my God, what have I done? Tell me what a poor boy is supposed to do when there's no one to cry when his life is through? Bobby closed his eyes for the last time and little Suzilee, she kept on crying These girls don't mean no harm - It's just what they do You'll find yourself torn apart By the time they're through

Your Dress 05:09
I've still got your dress that you left on my floor I guess that it means that you don't want it anymore Still there's a trace of your perfume in my room I guess it's just another thing that you'll be leaving too I fell out of love with you on my way back home (I fell out of love, I'm out of love) I saw your brother at the bar the other night I said some choice words and we got in a fight Doesn't matter that much to me though I wear his black eye Doesn't matter that much to me because you took all my pride I fell out of love with you on my way back home (I fell out of love, I'm out of love) I went to a garden party Saturday night I saw your mother she said that you're "doing just fine" It was rather awkward I did not know just what to say Still, I'm glad it wasn't your father He never liked me anyway I fell out of love with you on my way back home (I fell out of love, I'm out of love) I was pretty loaded on too much wine I was piss-drunk but I was "doing just fine" And then I thought of you and the morning came I woke outside in the pouring rain I fell out of love with you on my way back home (I fell out of love, I'm out of love)

We made ready and said our goodbyes We thought we'd be back in three month's time We stole out like thieves in the night I told my commanding officer That I was having my reserves He reminded me soldiers are not paid to think I laced up my boots and fell back in line We made St. Petersburg in three day's time We tried our best but the bridge would not hold As I l lay on the field dying I miss my wife and my child A soldier's life isn't fair but it's mine

I've packed up my meat with the salt of the earth  and made up my mind I won't ever be certain.  I'm never myself unless I've been hurting.  It's about time it was me that was just passing by.  Please bury me deep when it's my turn to die,  because the stars shine brightest in the cold Wyoming sky.  Take me to Cheyenne or up to Laramie.  Take me any place where the horses run free.  The collared brigade will be on to me soon;  they've been chasing me west since I took off in June.  I won't be on that train when it rolls up at noon.  When fear runs free in the home of the brave,  I'll make my peace and hope you forgave.  You'll have your hand on your book and a foot in the grave.  With a pack for my head and a blanket of steam,  I'm running away from America's dream.

Leaving 04:11
I heard you got yourself a new man  The tall, dark, handsome type I hear he's a spoiled rich kid Probably no good in a fight I hope he will remember It wasn't long ago you were mine And yeah, I know it's over You were clear about that from the start But now you're calling me over Saying something's the matter with your heart You say you're leaving tomorrow It just so happens I'm leaving tonight You say this could be the last time I see you Consider this my goodbye My bags are packed, I'm leaving This time I'm gone for sure But you ask me please to call you You won't be hearing from me anymore You say you're leaving tomorrow It's a shame but I'm leaving tonight You say this could be the last time I see you I sure hope that you're right I sure hope that you're right

AMERICAN ROCK AND ROLL
"They have a sound born before its members were…drawing deep from wells of psychedelic rock and cosmic-minded country sounds that were dug in the 1970s…yet deftly passing their retro-fied sonic penchants through the eye of a modern-rock needle.” ... more
